Reducing Cardboard Waste in E-Commerce: The FulfillWorks Way

Male warehouse worker preparing cardboard boxes or corrugated paper sheet products for shipping to customer at warehouse store. Logistics, Distribution Center concept

At FulfillWorks, we believe in doing our part for the environment. Our recycling and reuse policy isn’t just a statement; it’s a hands-on practice we follow every day. As a 3PL handling thousands of boxes weekly, we’ve found ways to give many of those boxes a second life. When we receive shipments, we sort through the packaging and identify boxes and fillers that are still in great shape, clean, sturdy, and perfectly reusable.

Instead of tossing these materials out or sending them straight to recycling centres, we reuse them for shipping smaller e-commerce orders or combining multiple items into one package. This way, we reduce the need for brand-new boxes, saving on ecommerce storeowner’s costs and cutting down the environmental impact that comes from producing fresh cardboard. In fact, every year, millions of trees are cut down globally to produce cardboard and paper.

By reusing boxes, we play a small but meaningful role in reducing that number. Producing new cardboard also consumes a significant amount of energy and water, and by extending the life of existing materials, we help lower that footprint. We’ve even got equipment on hand to shred older boxes into filler material, giving them yet another purpose to protect products during transit. In short, our approach is about making sure we’re not just discarding something that can be used again.

It’s our way of being kinder to the planet and helping our clients feel good about the packaging choices we make together. For more information about our sustainability policy click here. Thanks for being a part of this journey with us!
